10 Tips to Boost Your iPhone's Battery Life

Everyone knows how frustrating it can be when your iPhone battery dies too quickly. Whether you're in the middle of an important call or trying to navigate your way home using maps, a dead battery can be a major inconvenience. In this article, we'll provide 10 simple tips to improve your iPhone battery life and keep you connected and productive throughout the day.

Tip #1: Keep your iPhone updated

Apple frequently releases iOS updates which can include improvements to battery life. To check for updates, go to Settings > General > Software Update. If an update is available, follow the prompts to install it.

Tip #2: Turn off or reduce push email

Push email allows your iPhone to automatically receive new email as it arrives, rather than checking for email at set intervals. While this can be convenient, it can also drain your battery. To turn off push email, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and toggle the Push option to Off. Alternatively, you can set your iPhone to fetch email at intervals, such as every 15 or 30 minutes, rather than constantly checking for new emails.

Tip #3: Use Low Power Mode

Low Power Mode is a feature that can help extend your iPhone's battery life when your battery percentage gets lower. When Low Power Mode is turned on, your iPhone will automatically reduce power consumption by disabling certain features, such as automatic downloads and background refresh. To turn on Low Power Mode, go to Settings > Battery and toggle the Low Power Mode switch to On.

Tip #4: Reduce screen brightness or timeout

Adjusting the screen's brightness will also help keep your battery from draining as quickly. Reducing the screen's brightness, or setting it to turn off after a shorter length of time are easy ways to conserve battery life. To change your screen brightness, go to Settings > Display and Brightness and lower the brightness. To set manage your screen timeout, go to Settings > Display and Brightness > Auto-Lock and select a shorter time period.

Tip #5: Turn off unnecessary features and services

There are many features and services on your iPhone that you may not need or use regularly. By turning off these features, you can save battery life. Some features and services to consider turning off include:

  • Location Services: Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and turn off any apps that you don't need running location services.

  • Background App Refresh: Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and turn off any apps that you don't need to refresh in the background.

  • Bluetooth: Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn it off until you need to use Bluetooth again.

  • Wi-Fi: Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn it off until you need it again.

  • Personal Hotspot: Go to Settings > Personal Hotspot and turn it off if you don’t use it.

  • Automatic Downloads: Go to Settings > iTunes & App Store and turn off any automatic downloads that are unnecessary.

Tip #6: Kill battery-draining apps

Some apps drain your battery more than others. To find out which apps are straining your battery the most, go to Settings > Battery. Here you will see a list of apps and their battery usage. The apps at the top of the list are the ones that are using the most battery. Simply close the apps that are using the most battery. We recommend always closing apps you aren’t using to keep your phone running faster. Keep in mind that closing apps may not necessarily improve battery life, as iOS is designed to efficiently manage app usage and battery life. However, if you notice that a particular app is using an unusually high amount of battery, it may be worth closing the app to see if it makes a difference.

Tip #7: Use airplane mode in low-signal areas

If you’re in a low signal area, your phone has to work harder to maintain a connection, which can drain the battery. Putting your iPhone into airplane mode will turn off the cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth radios which in turn will help your battery life. To turn on airplane mode, go to Settings > Airplane Mode and toggle the switch to On. When you're back in a stronger signal area, you can turn airplane mode off to re-enable these features.

Tip #8: Replace the battery

If you’ve had your phone for a few years, there’s a good chance the battery is just getting old and needs to be replaced. We recommend taking your phone to a professional to have it checked out. Contact us for a free estimate on a battery replacement for your phone, or come by the shop and we will test it free of charge!

Tip #9: Consider a battery case

Some of us are constantly on the go and keeping our phones charged throughout the day can be a real challenge. If this is you, you may want to consider a battery case or external battery pack. Battery phone cases protect your iPhone while providing additional battery life. An external battery pack is a portable device that you can use to charge your iPhone when you're away from a power source. Both options provide a convenient way to extend your iPhone's battery life, especially if you're running to catch a flight and don’t have time to wait for your phone to charge.

Tip #10: buy a new phone

While this might not be what you like to hear, sometimes it’s just the truth. If your phone is several years old, unfortunately, it is going to struggle to keep up with newer software. This means battery life is going to suffer. The fact is, smartphones are highly sophisticated devices which means they become obsolete almost as quickly as they evolve.

Conclusion

While there are many ways to help prolong your battery life, the truth is there could be multiple reasons your battery could be draining faster. Hopefully, some of these tips helped you. If you find yourself in doubt, contact us or a professional in your area that can help identify the problem.
